Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Balcı will take part in the International Congress of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Turkic-Speaking Countries, to be held from 3 to 6 September 2026 at the Baku Marriott Hotel Boulevard in Azerbaijan.
The congress will bring orthopaedic and trauma specialists together around a broad scientific programme covering trauma, arthroplasty, sports injuries, paediatric orthopaedics, spine surgery and other areas of contemporary orthopaedic practice. This year’s meeting is organised around the theme “Cooperation, Diversity and Equality.”
On 5 September, Prof. Balcı will speak during the trauma programme on “Post-Traumatic Deformities of the Upper Extremity: Correct Planning, Correct Correction.” His presentation will place the planning of upper-limb deformity correction within a session that also addresses complex fractures and other challenging problems after trauma.
Post-traumatic deformity can remain after a fracture has healed or following earlier treatment. In the upper limb, the problem may involve angulation, rotation, shortening, altered joint relationships or several deformity components at the same time. These changes can affect reach, grip, forearm rotation and hand position.
For this reason, correction begins with a clear understanding of where the deformity is located and how it affects the limb as a whole. Previous surgery, bone healing, joint movement, soft tissues, nerve function and the patient’s current limitations can all influence the reconstructive plan.
The subject is closely aligned with Prof. Balcı’s clinical and academic work in deformity correction and complex post-traumatic reconstruction. As Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, he also provides the clinical and surgical direction of ILLRC | Istanbul Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction Centre.
